Harlequin

How To Start . . .

Choose who will play Down and who will play Across. Toss to decide who goes first.

Press PLAY

The winner is the first player to complete a line of 5 tiles of the same colour in alphabetical order:

Down must complete a vertical line, from top to bottom.

Across must complete a horizontal line, from left to right.

How To Play . . .

The players take it in turns to move by placing a letter tile into a blank space:

above, or to the left of, the letter which follows it in the alphabet

or

below, or to the right of, the letter which precedes it in the alphabet:

K follows J   S below R

Note that, as the first and last letters, A can follow Y :

A follows Y   A follows Y

Just let the colours guide you.

The Slide Move . . .

When you have created an alphabetical sequence of 2 or more tiles in your own direction of play (Down or Across), on your next turn you may slide 2 or more of those tiles into any empty adjacent
space(s); up, down, left or right.

To complete your turn you must then move any single tile in the normal way.

You are allowed to slide tiles of different colours providing the letters are in alphabetical order, eg:

NOPQ

You are not allowed to make two slides within the same turn or to slide after moving a single tile.

Down can only slide a vertical sequence of tiles
Across can only slide a horizontal sequence.

And the Mini-Harlequins . . . ?

Their job is to help you win!

When you have completed your turn drag a Harlequin onto each of the tiles which you have moved (including those involved in a Slide Move).
Your opponent is not allowed to move these tiles in his, or her, next turn.

Down plays with the Silver Harlequins.

Across plays with the Black Harlequins.
